C A S T I R O NIntroduction We supply bars and sections obtained by a highly advanced technological process, in continuous casting of grey and ductile iron. The qualities obtained by this process are very specific and difficult to obtain by conventional means. Its advantages, apart from those inherent to the material, is product free of sand inclusions, porosity and any other surface defects. The continuous cast method also gives a homogeneous grain structure with a uniform distribution of graphite. The Process The bars and sections are obtained with a water cooled graphite die fixed to the outlet of the casting furnace, with water circulation controlled in volume and temperature, which allows gradual and uniform solidification. The bars are pulled with rollers and controlled with an electronic control device which regulates the speed of the bar. Once solidified, the material passes to the cutting saws and gets cut according to customer needs. The molten metal is obtained in a low frequency induction furnace where it is adjusted in temperature and composition in a second canal furnace for its subsequent transfusion to the casting furnace. General Characteristics Due to the rapid cooling of the material a very fine-grained structure is obtained. This quality bar possesses excellent mechanical properties, good machinability and grinding properties and pressure tightness. It is superior to sand and centrifugal cast material. |
